Fellowship

At the heart of creating unity and a sense of community within the body of Christ is fellowship. As a church let us praise the Lord and serve the broken-hearted and lonely with a compassionate heart and a listening ear.

Everyday they contiuned to meet in the temple courts. They broke bread in thier homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  -Acts 2:46-47

Weekly fellowship

Yoga Class ~

Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm in Fellowship Hall

http://www.synergisticyoga.com
No matter what age, weight, height, or gender you are, yoga is the type of exercise any person can learn to love and enjoy. It increases flexibility and strength while serving as a relaxation method putting one more at ease with their mind, body, and soul.

Synergsitc yoga, developed by Carolyn Zimmermann
.
..is a blend of traditional hatha yoga stretches, deep breathing, moving meditations and relaxation techniques to quiet the mind, relax, stretch and tone the body while awakening the spirit.  Beginning with breathing and moving meditations, one gains a familiarity and knowing of what is to come.  Outside distraction disappears as each move flows into the next and becomes anticipated.   Results are individual and rewarding.

Real Christian Fellowship

For the last couple of years our Session has been studying how things have been changing in our society, and how the church will need to change in order to grow, and be a vital force in this new and different culture.  We are ready to begin planning, and implementing that growth.

One of our first steps is going to be the creation of more small groups in our congregation   In the book of Acts; the early church was characterized as having “sincere hearts”.  Sincere hearts is about being honest about our joys and struggles, faith and doubts. The gospel says that each of us is fully known by God, who invites us to come as we are, so that we can deal with our struggles together.  Someone has said that “Life changes happen in circles not in rows”. In smaller groups we can know each other in deeper ways and share our real lives much more easily. So the Session is planning to help our congregation create more and better venues for people to give and receive support, prayer, acceptance, and love.

The good news is that small groups can be formed around almost any interest or activity, or shared situation.  Some of the ideas that have come up include:  “A microbrew fellowship that will meet for a beer after work, at prearranged times and places…. Small groups for mothers or couples with young children, and/or teenagers….Groups that want to learn together by reading books or watching teaching videos….Groups that want to meet geographically… Groups that want to play or do an activity together (like UFO).  It can even be a group like the current “Cheers Small Group” whose only agenda is to ask, “What’s on your mind today?”   If you would like to host, or lead a small group, please contact  pastor Ed, Elaine Heimers – Cook, or Troy Hengst from the Outreach team.

Mmm – Mmm Good News!

Every once in a while it feels good to hear good news for a change, and there’s always something good happening “behind the curtain” in our church.

*There are so many people who have rallied to keep this place sparkling - and most of them are like Nike – they just show up and do it!   Most of the time nobody knows (but Jesus) who our quiet scrubbers are.   A big THANK YOU to ALL of you who are rolling up your sleeves to help!

*Stories keep rising up about people in our midst who perform spontaneous acts of kindness. This past month:  a homeless person received some new clothes and a place to shower. A huge prayer card for Jack was created and shredded so that each of us could remember to pray… A Little Child led one of our members who needed a hand, to his seat on a Sunday morning.  One of our members sank his teeth into providing a good belly laugh to someone who needed some comic relief!  These are only a few stories among the many that reach our ears every week.    God bless us every one as we keep up the good news!
