Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Stephen Ministry

What exactly is Stephen Ministry?

Stephen Ministry is a ministry in our congregation in which trained and supervised lay persons, called Stephen Ministers, provide one-on-one Christian care to individuals facing life challenges or difficulties.

Who is involved?

Stephen Leaders are the ones who oversee and direct our Stephen Ministry.  They recruit, select, train, organize, and supervise our Stephen Ministers, identify people in need of care, and match them with a Stephen Minister.  We have three Stephen Leaders.  They are:  Pastor Brown, Karen Bauer, and Janet Haacker.

Stephen Ministers are the caregivers.  They have been through 50 hours of training in Christian care giving, including general topics such as listening, feelings, boundaries, assertiveness, and using Christian resources in care giving.

In addition, their training covered specialized topics such as ministering to the divorced, hospitalized, bereaved, and aging.

Care Receivers are the recipients of Stephen Ministers’ care.  They are people from our church who are experiencing divorce, grief, loss of a job. loneliness, hospitalization, terminal illness, or any of an endless number of other life difficulties.  Stephen Ministers usually meet once a week for about an hour for as long as the care receiver will benefit by the relationship.

What do Stephen Ministers Do?

Stephen Ministers are caring Christian friends who listen, understand, accept, and pray for and with care receivers who are working through a crisis or a tough time.

A STEPHEN MINISTRY MESSAGE

SUMMER……..

It’s that time of year where we enjoy long days filled with warm sunshine, blossoming fragrant flowers, birds singing from early dawn to late dusk. We pack up picnic meals & head to the beaches, parks or just a friend/family’s backyard. Our burdens seem less & our loads lighter………..or are they?

For some of us it doesn’t matter if the sun is shining or the birds are chirping or that the corn-on-the-cob is sweet & tender. We can only see & feel darkness, & carry heavy hearts wherever we go.

BUT….it doesn’t have to be that way!

And it doesn’t have to stay like that! God desires you to trust in Him to find that unmistakable peace that only He can give – a feeling that dispels sadness, fear & pain.

“All Praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is our merciful Father & the source of comfort of all.

He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.” 2Corinthians 1:4

That last line “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others” is the gift that a Stephen Minister can bring to you. Won’t you pray & ask God for someone to walk with you in this difficult time?

We will be waiting to hear from you!

If this message has spoken to YOUR heart, please call for a confidential conversation for your very own Stephen Minister.
